Will it really protect your system or is it one of those freebies that you kind of keep on the fence. Well that was our question so we went to avtest.org. This is an institution that runs constant test on antiviruses and gives them a ranking. This REPORT was done in June of 2020, so it’s obviously very up to date. Defender scored a good six out of six for being one of the top products.

Let’s see now how to enable and what you actually get with windows defender.

Go to your search and then start typing windows security and there you’ll see it. When you click it open, you’ll see it’s made up of a whole bunch of applications. All of these fall under windows security. What we interested in is located in Virus & Threat Protection. Here is your windows defenders option, if you currently have an anti-virus installed on your computer, you will not see these options. Because your anti-virus is responsible for managing your system. However, once you uninstall your current anti-virus, then the windows defender will take its place.

Here as you can see you’ve got the quick scan the deep scan as you normally would with any anti-virus virus. Under threat protection settings click on manage. Here you just want to make sure all these things are ON, real time cloud delivery protection, automatic sample and temper protection etc.

A firewall essentially what it does, it looks at your traffic coming into your network or out of your network. You get this on some of the more advanced anti-virus programs but you get it here as part of windows security.
